We’re very excited to say that this summer and autumn, we will be making and performing Toast with lots of butter, supported by Creative Scotland’s Open Fund and Dirliebane Theatre Company! 🍞🧈

Toast with lots of butter is a comedic theatre show for ages 8-12, made by lovebug + worm (Florence Logan and Hope Kennedy) and produced by Tanya McLaughlin. This show is all about food. It’s about chips, trips to the big supermarket, the wonder of chocolate fountains and conveyor belt toaster machines, and very important questions, like what is the right way to eat a cheese string?

Toast with lots of butter follows the busy day of two dinner ladies, all glammed up in their crocs, pasta necklaces and pop rings 💍 In between ambitious dance routines and reheating forgotten cups of tea, this show highlights the never-ending job of caring and cooking for people.

We are working with Corstorphine Primary School in Edinburgh, and with Fossoway Primary School in Kinross through Dirliebane Theatre Company’s HOOT! engagement programme. We’re delivering drama workshops for the P5-P7 leaners all about food, home, care, dreams and ambitions, framing them as official favourite food experts, and interviewing the school catering staff too. We’ll make a creative resource for teachers to use in their classrooms, and finally perform Toast with lots of butter in the school cafeterias 🍕

Toast with lots of butter will have its public premiere on the 11th October, as part of HOOT!, a comedy theatre festival from Dirliebane Theatre Company in collaboration with Perth Theatre for children aged 0-12 and their families.

Our cup is feeling very full after our weekend in Denmark with our producer @t_mc_laughlin 🐛

We saw dance performance for young audiences at SWOP festival in Roskilde @aabendans and were able to meet and chat with other artists from different countries also making work for children and young people. And we made some time to catch DRØM by @tinydancer.dk in Copenhagen @danskdanseteater - such an enchanting and generous show! 💤🌙

We’re super excited to take all these inspirations and discoveries into the studio next week as we make Clumps and Crumbs for @villagestories festival and into all the exciting things that we have planned for 2027 - such as the return of Two Cowboys and the Sky! 🐸🤠🎸

From their tower, two cloud collectors share some of the stories they’ve seen stretched across the Scottish sky. Made by performance-making duo lovebug + worm, Clumps & Crumbs is a sensory storytelling performance for children aged 2-5 and their adults.

Through play, movement and oral storytelling, we celebrate the timeless tales we see in the shapeshifting, forever-drifting clouds, we get carried away on a windy day whim, and we find ourselves captivated by even the dampest and dreariest of grey Glasgow skies.

Clumps & Crumbs is made for ambitious world builders, professional play makers, nosy noticers, curious questioners, slightly chaotic crafters, wonder-seeking wanderers and daydreamers who can’t help but look out the window and float away.

The performance is 1-hour long, with pockets of play throughout. This is a relaxed performance. Please feel free to leave and come back if you or your child need to. During the performance, the young audience are welcome to move, change spots, and make noises, and, at various points, the audience (adults included!) are invited to play and interact with the performers, the objects on stage, the set and each other!

We made cloud castles with turrets, towers and even factories. We caught rain drops and clouds, some were fluffy, some were furry and some we had to run after for quite a while to catch!

We’ll be back on Saturday 14th February for a windy day celebration- the grand opening of our cloud castles. See you there @platformglasgow !! 🤍

Trailer of our R&D of Two Cowboys and the Sky, shared as part of @platformglasgow Summer Holiday and Food programme🤠🐸🪸

Two Cowboys and the Sky is a physical theatre performance for ages 3-7 and their adults, created with musician-performer Samuel Pashby🥁

We couldn’t decide what we wanted to make a show about, and so we decided to make it about lots of things: from high-heeled, haughty and fly-hungry frogs, all the way to rock n’ roll snowflakes, and who could forget the wryly rats in the swanky sewer, and of course, it’s about cowboys too. And we couldn’t decide what instrument we wanted to play, so we chose ten different ones! In this performance, we explore how everything in life dances, we just need to pay attention. Through its game-like episodic structure, we invite you to care for the seedlings stuck in the rubbish, to listen to the horizon and the wise old mountains, to remember how much life is dancing at the bottom of the sea, and most importantly, to come and dance with us too.

In summer 2025, we engaged in a two-week long R&D at @platformglasgow supported through Creative Scotland’s Open Fund @creativescots . Throughout this creative process, we collaborated with and listened to our intended audience through dance-as-play and child-led workshops. During the first development in 2024 (as part of the last year of our degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), we worked with @dundeerep and St. Columbkille’s Primary School. And in 2025, we partnered with @homestartglasgowsouth @villagestories @ourcreativehangouts and @platformglasgow to deliver workshops across Greater Glasgow. We stretched like sleepy stars, strutted like starfish, drew maps of snowflakes’ journeys, made animal inspired handshakes (from sloths to axolotls, from cats to flamingos), created frog characters, played instruments, created our own instruments, and made soundscapes inspired by our local landscapes.

1, 2, 3 Resilient Mushrooms! is a physical storytelling for audiences ages 3+ and their adults, featuring live music and audience participation. It was created with fiddle-player Eilidh Inara and costume-designed Kiera Saunders. It was co-commissioned as a 15min pop-up performance by Imaginate and OneRen, supported by the Village Storytelling Centre.

1, 2, 3 resilient mushrooms! is an homage to the mushroom and a hymn for hope. This performance tells the story of a landscape, treated poorly and almost abandoned, but not just yet, not by the mushrooms. Through ceilidh dancing, physical storytelling and Scottish traditional music, we show the underdog journey of three resilient mushrooms that not only survive but thrive, the only way they can, as a community.

We’ve performed 1, 2, 3 Resilient Mushrooms ! at Paisley Book Festival, Pollok Kite Festival, Edinburgh International Children’s Festival family day and Merchant City Festival, and we hope to be back next summer for more mushroom fun!
